The reason for informed consent
Please don’t interpret the following as a statement meant to overly
concern or worry you. You are being informed of any possible risks, no matter,
how small, only for the standard reasons of ethical informed
consent, as should be done with any out-of-the-ordinary procedure. So please don’t
get overly concerned or worried. No student at WIRV has ever been hurt or
harmed by doing remote viewing. Nearly all have a growthfull, pleasant, energy
intensive experience.
Sorry to have to be so legalistic!!
Initial _____
Understand The Nature of Remote viewing
Understand that remote viewing in its present form has only been around for about 20 years. Remote viewing type activities have been around for millions of years practiced by natural psychics, shaman, intuitives, prophets, medicine men, and holy men. In its present form, remote viewing is still in its babyhood and much, much more research needs to be done on the basic mechanism, and principles involved. Understand therefore, that remote viewing is a relatively new frontier waiting to be explored by people like yourself. Remote viewing has an inherent experimental nature to it. All the benefits or possible non-benefits have yet to be explored. You must therefore take responsibility for yourself for any and all risks or benefits as a fellow explorer into sometimes unknown territory. WIRV therefore, cannot guarantee the outcome of any session, not because anyone has ever been hurt by a session, but because this is still relatively uncharted territory. Remote viewing is for people who love the joy of exploring something new. Be very wary of remote viewers who claim to know it all, or who claim to have advanced beyond all others. With proper remote viewing comes an awesome sense of responsibility and of humility. Past remote viewers have notoriously let their ego’s need to control, get in the way. The new generation of remote viewers should be grounded in more spiritual values, to be able to go where few men and women have gone before. Remote viewing is a personal experience that involves mind, body, heart and soul. It is not a dry "get the target, download the data, and get out" process.
Initial _____
RV Targets:
Targets can be people, beings, animals, objects, structures, events, concepts, relationships, geographic areas, geographic objects.
Targets can be past, present, future, important, mundane, well known, unknown, large, small, close, far, verifiable, unverifiable, positive, negative, emotional, non emotional, serious, light, tragic, energetic, static, physical, inter-dimensional, mythological, concrete, intangible, simple, intricate, this timeline, alternative timelines, this universe, other universes.
Initial: _____
Use of the mind settling and re-grounding
procedures (tapes).
It is highly recommended that you precede any RV session with at least 15 minutes of meditation, or other mind settling procedure. It is also very highly recommended that after a session, you follow a re-grounding procedure, e.g. the provided re-grounding tape, meditation, breathing, walking, gardening, hot bath, yoga etc.
Initial: _____
Remote viewing energy and the learning
process
Understand that remote viewing is very energy intensive in and of itself. The blood really flows to your brain. When you are learning remote viewing, you are using double energy to both learn and to remote view!! So it can be a double expenditure of energy! Take care of yourself, pace yourself at first, take breaks when you need to, eat right. Don’t burn yourself out expecting to be "super-viewer". Give yourself time to get past the hectic part of the learning. Think of it as learning to fly a plane or glider. Before you can glide you must learn the basics! Trust you own learning curve !!
Initial: _____
Remote Viewing and Defenses.
The important role of psychological defenses in beginning remote viewing has basically been ignored up till now. At some time or another, remote viewing will evoke one of your psychological defenses.
Sometimes a target may contain contents that evoke unpleasant feelings (often unconscious) in the viewer.
When this happens, several things can happen: The data flow can suddenly dry up, the viewer can start feeling numb, or resistant, confused, overwhelmed, avoidant, blocked, or shut down. The viewer may want to leave the target and quit the session. The viewer may become self-critical or perfectionistic. The viewer can start creating a particular kind of story line called a "happy line" which uses many terms such as happy, and joy, in order to sugarcoat the target content.
Remote viewing can eventually teach you what your defenses are, if you stay attuned to yourself. Remember that defenses aren't necessarily bad things at all. We need and use them at times to survive. Defenses may come in to play more for some targets than others. They can come into play at times, even for apparently neutral targets. Usually it's not a big deal. You just need to be aware of it. And not be totally caught by surprise if they come into play.
Remote viewing actually has huge potential as a psychotherapeutic tool. WIRV teaches therapeutic remote viewing to qualified individuals for research purposes.
Initial: _____
Advanced targets -- Targets with traumatic
content (e.g. plane crash):
For the sake of giving a complete variety of targets, some targets with traumatic content (e.g.: like the sinking of the Titanic) and unusual targets are included in the list of advanced targets only. A traumatic target can also get you in touch with your feelings of compassion and empathy, and help you see beyond the appearance of death. A traumatic target can teach you a lot about yourself and others. A traumatic target can sometimes leave you feeling lousy and upset for a while. You always have the choice to back off on the emotionals, take a break, or discontinue the session if you choose at any moment.
It is very highly recommended that after such a session, you follow a re-grounding procedure e.g. the provided re-grounding tape, meditation, breathing, walking, gardening, hot bath, yoga, talking to a friend etc.
When you do decide to proceed with a target you feel is traumatic you take full responsibility for your responses. (response-ability)
Initial _____
Support:
If a viewer leaves a target with feelings that are difficult to manage he is encouraged to call, or seek support from a friend. This of course is not really anticipated to happen often. Most people do just fine with a variety of targets
Remember if you should ever need to, during a session, you can always back off from the emotional aspect of the target, take a break, or just quit. Again, this is not anticipated to happen much. I know of no one who has ever been hurt by doing a session. Any such support that may be provided by the Institute does not suggest or imply a professional psychotherapeutic relationship, students desiring such a relationship will be graciously referred to an appropriate professional
Initial _____
Practice of Ethical Remote Viewing:
Remote viewing will only be done with concern for, and practice of ethical considerations.
Remote viewing will not be done for any malicious intent or intent to influence.
"View unto other as you would have others view unto you."
Private individuals are not viewed without their permission. Respect privacy whenever appropriate
Remote viewing is only done with positive intent.
Initial: _____
Professional roles:
I understand that Dr. Carr’s role, professional responsibilities, and ethical obligations as a Psychologist are kept entirely separate from his role as a Remote Viewing instructor, provider and author of Remote Viewing training material, Remote Viewing consultant, professional Remote Viewer, and as head of the Western Institute of Remote Viewing and The American Association of Remote viewers.
I understand that attending a workshop, receiving home instruction, or receiving consultation or feedback on remote viewing or on any issues personal or otherwise that may arise from any such contact with Dr. Carr or his staff, does not imply or suggest a professional patient - psychologist relationship.
Any support of any and all kind that may be provided by the Institute does not suggest or imply a professional psychotherapeutic relationship. If anyone does desire a psychotherapeutic relationship, they will be graciously referred to an appropriate professional to avoid any chance of a dual professional relationship with Dr. Carr or his staff.
Any one needing or requiring psychological counseling will be graciously referred, to avoid any chance of a dual professional relationship. This is done to stay within the requirements of the APA ethics code.
Initial ____
Mental Health
If you have symptoms of schizophrenia, delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, uncontrollable impulses, emotional or mental instability, severe depression, suicidality, trouble distinguishing your boundaries, a severe mental disorder, or extreme substance dependence particularly hallucinogenic, or if you have been told you have or have been diagnosed with any of these symptoms, or suspect you may have any of these symptoms, then you should not proceed until you have discussed your intentions to learn remote viewing with a psychiatrist, or licensed psychologist. You should proceed to learn, only if one of these professionals gives his/her approval of your participation in remote viewing studies, and is willing to be available during your initial sessions. Otherwise, do not proceed without this support and approval.
Initial ____
Who may have some difficulty with remote
viewing but who can still do it.
people who are very low energy or are physically ill
people who tire easily or get impatient easily.
People who easily feel resistant to following strict procedures.
people who are mildly depressed
people with extremely low self esteem,
people who are indiscriminate "true believers"
people who see everything as a conspiracy
people who are overly perfectionistic
people who don't know when to take brakes.
people who are emotionally cut off
people who have a hard time letting go of having to be right.
people who have a difficult time tolerating ambiguity
people who feel very insecure if they can’t know and figure out everything ahead of time
people who are currently have a mild substance abuse problem, particularly alcohol
people who are very rigid intellectuals or always in their head.
people who are highly defended
people who have very rigid belief systems
natural psychics who think they know it all
people who are on heavy medication or pain killers
some elderly people (not all by a long shot!)
can still learn very well and become excellent remote viewers,
but sometimes can become frustrated with the process. It is suggested that they go slowly, be very patient with themselves, trust their own learning curve, not compare themselves with others, make sure they have adequate support from friends, spouse, family, or a professional counselor. Keeping your RV activity from a spouse has been shown to be a potential major source of stress. Remote viewing talent varies from person to person, but we all have it. Your attitude should be to learn to the best of your own personal abilities, in order to explore, grow and to help others.
Initialed _____
RV should be done as part of a BALANCED life style: Attend to your emotions and feelings, your spirituality, your thinking, your body, and your relationships, your diet. Do not neglect these essential aspects of your life when doing RV. Don’t use RV to avoid what needs to be attended to in your life! Rather use RV to increase your balance and harmony with yourself, others, and the universe. As you get into this over time, don't do a "spiritual bypass", bypassing or avoiding some of you're feelings by going into your spirituality and trying to "rise above it all". Live in all the rooms of the house that is you. Deal with feelings on a feeling level.
Initialed ______
GIVE YOURSELF AN HONEST OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THE TRUE "RV
EXPERIENCE"
We ask that you commit to doing at least 10 targets (including the one's you'll do in the workshop) before deciding if remote viewing is your "cup if tea". This means doing several targets after the workshop, on your own or with a practice group. One or more of the ten targets should give you an "honest RV experience". You can only get and honest RV experience after you get the basics under you belt, usually in the first five sessions. Remember that during the workshop you're trying to do two things at once: learn and remote view at the same time! This makes it hard to assess what the RV experience is really like.
Initialed _____
Student/Viewer’s Full Responsibility:
The viewer understands the relatively new and unexplored nature of
remote viewing and assumes full responsibility
for his responses to target contact, and accepts any potential risk, mentioned,
or unforeseen or not mentioned. (Because of the relatively new and
unexplored nature of RV, it is impossible to know all potential risks. No
such problems have ever occurred in association with WIRV and we don’t
anticipate any. We just want you to be fully informed before you begin.)
